Computer Nerds in the house?
Alright so I have a quad core processor custom computer yadda yadda its a nice set-up with the works..
Its hooked up through a surge protector..
BOOM power outtage, desktop shuts off, and wont power back up... the first few attempts it would turn on for a second then die..
My immediate guess is that its the power supply, but I cant be sure, and I dont want to spend $100 on a power supply to find out its the motherboard or something..
Anyone got advice?
Thanks!

do you have a second rig you can throw the PSU into?
If not, get a PSU tester for $20

Also would invest in a heavy duty battery back up. After frying an ASUS board in a custom rig a few years ago I broke down and got one. Best money ever spent for the peace of mind.
I run my 46" TV, 7.1 system, computer, ps3 etc all off of the same unit.

Start with the basics if you havent already. Outlet, power cord, surge protector ...
It's almost garaunteed that it's the power supply since nothing at all is happening. Usually when it's not you still get a light or at least hear the fan in the power supply kick in for a second or two. Also .. some power supplies come with a reset button. That's a shot in the dark but worth looking at.

Hey thanks for all the great feedback!!
The basics are already technically checked because of other stuff plugged into the surge protector, therefore the outlet and surge protector are fine...
I dont have another rig except for my dads liquid cooled alienware rig, which is still under warrenty so I wouldnt wanna open it up..
I really think it is the PSU but I did get a light and fan to turn on right after the power surge for the 1st or 2nd time, but it was only for a split second and then it died.. (Which makes me think its the PSU which had some power left in it but since its not working now once the remaining power died it stopped doing that)
Telos I would really appreciate borrowing your PSU if possible just to see if that fixes the problem (Im not all that hardware savvy but Ive taken apart my current rig as I recieved it with faulty video cards and the company lets you open up the rig and do whatever without voiding warrenty)..
So if your offer still stands Telos maybe we can figure out somewhere to meet up, or I could meet up at your place or something? PM me!
