This is a great deal. Might as well take some time off from work.

do we need to go to one of those places listed in the above link for tech inspection or is it done on site?

You need to have the tech inspection done before showing up to the track, within 2 weeks of the track date. It does not have to be only the ones listed (those are mostly around the Philly area as that is where this PCA Chapter is from). Eurotire in Fairfield will do the tech inspections for you. In addition to that, every day at the track the organization will do a quick tech inspection at the beginning of the day (check brakes, brake fluid, etc).

Kevin,

Pre-tech inspection has to be done prior to event and you will need to bring filled-out form with you to the track. They also do tech inspection EVERY morning for things like fluids levels, lug-nuts torque, brake pads condition. You don't need to go to those places listed on RTR web-site since you are out of state. Any ASE certified mechanic can do tech-inspection going down the list in the safety form. But you will need have his certification# on the safety form along with copy of his certification. Only for the first event and first time if you will be using the same person in the future for tech. You can just indicate his name and his certification# in the future.

What I find easiest to do is to go to NNJR PCA approved places since RTR PCA will accept their official tech stamp with no questions asked. I personally go to EuroTire. If you are the customer they will do it for free (I just always tip a person doing the inspection). Before you go - I would call those palces up and confirm that they will do tech on your car.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

thanks Sean and Aleksey. I want to stay local, but it may be a hassle to ask for a copy of their ASE cert. I'll keep looking around though, definitely need to get it done by this weekend.

Also, you guys know if track insurance is offered for this?

Kevin, yes - there is an insurance offered specifically for that event. PCA has their own HPDE insurance program cause their members get 10% discount. But you don't have to be a member to apply for insurance. I have never done it personally, even though I SHOULD and WILL myself for Glen event in July. But I think you basically choose the value of the car. And from what I remember it probably run like $100-150 for 20K coverage with ~10% deductible. May be prices went down a little bit. Nice piece of mind to have if you total the car.

As far as pre-track tech - it is kind of hassle first time, but it is worth it 100%. Safety first and PCA takes it very seriously. And it starts off the track. Also they will only need copy of ASE certification first time you do the event with them. A lot of shops have those ASE cert's hanging on the walls anyways - might not be such a biggie to get a copy of it...

Why can't I do join you guys
