Thanks Bill for your help diagnosing the issue - replacing the tensioner assembly (and the belt at the same time) fixed the issue - the engine is more quiet now than I've ever heard it before.

Hello Bill,

I own a 2001 that I bought in 2002 when it had 1000 miles on it. It now has 27k on it and is always stored in my garage for the winter. The past 10 years I have only put 1000-1500 miles after it comes out of storage for summer. Other than changing the oil, coolant a couple of times, new tires and an AEM cold air intake, it is stock. No other maintenance has been done to it. I plan to change all of the fluids in June. This past summer I noticed a clunking noise coming from the back end. The noise can be found on various YouTube videos. I rented and returned a 32mm socket and torque wrench from O’Reilly Auto to loosen, grease and crank the axle nuts down. The noise is still there. Any suggestions? I live in Omaha, Nebraska and have a great nearby Honda/Acura only shop run by a guy who has years of experience. He races S2000 at tracks in the Midwest and I trust him completely. Finding a good mechanic is like finding a good doctor. Stick with them! Are there any TSBs that I should be aware of and is it possible that axle nuts are just not torque tight enough? Thanks for you time!

Regards,

Scott Long

Post a video of the noise and I’ll have a listen.

Axle nut and clunking are typically not related.

Axle nut issues will cause rotational noises at low speed, and single “tink” noises when changing direction.

Hello Billman,
A question for the master.....
My '06 has an interesting new issue, and would like your advice on a direction I should take on attempting to fix it. Might be a known issue, but I haven't found anything on the forums.

Basically:
Lights off - i can flash my brights OK.
Parking lights on - I can flash my brights OK.
Headlights on however - brights wont work - via either a lever pull for flash or forward to turn on.

Any ideas?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

HI Billman,

Just recently acquired my first S, and it seems to have been very well kept at 99k but would like to speak about getting "The once over, difference you can feel" service. Are you currently taking appointments. Please PM about your pricing as well.

Thanks,

Vince

PM sent.

RexRacerX check every fuse in the car to start. IIRC the high beams have two power sources, FTP and run.

Thanks for the quick response. Will start there. I also managed to find a forum article re: a similar issue. Wish me luck...
