First off I have a habit of looking in the mirror and then opening the door only a crack before I check again and get out. The door was only partially open when the fool hit it. He came from around the corner and then he tried to pass a truck on the right hand side that stopped in front of him.

If you are parked and open your door into traffic you are at fault. Even though he hit you, you opening your door into the flow of traffic makes you at fault. So a crappy situation could have turned out a lot worse.
there's some guy on a bike forum ranting about some idiot in a miata who opened his door in front of him.
