ATTN: Metro Track guys. Need input ..
I was reading an article in the latest GameInformer mag about video game racing and how close it is or isn't to real racing. The article discusses the Porsche driving school in Alabama and video games. Having a love for Porsche my entire life I naturally started to look into the school and found it very reasonable. After this year my son is off to college so I can finally start to throw money in this direction. Here are my questions..
What do you guys think?
Have you guys used any driving school closer to the Metro area?
What cars did they use or did you bring your S?
Was it worth it?
edit* here is the link to Porshce Driving School

wow that looks great. looking at the 2 day one seems pretty damn reasonable to me. i was also thinking of joining a school. the skip barber one is around the same price but they let you drive a bigger array of car platforms. id love to do this course in my S though cause i know that i wont be getting a porsche anytime soon lol. and im sure the cars handle way different from each other so techniques you learn there may not all apply to your S.

I hear you on that. My Porsche dream keeps getting pushed further away I am sure it will still help me drive my S better on some track days even though I will notice a difference. I just have always had thing for 911's and plan on owning one eventually. It's on my bucket list

I have heard good things about Porsche Driving School at PCA (Porsche Club of America) HPDE events. The only people's concern was price. They said HPDE you can do with various PCA regions are as good and MUCH cheaper. But you have drive your own car. If you really want to do it in Porsche - then it is a good deal! NNJR and RTR PCA are VERY friendly to non-Porsche drivers at their HPDE and once you do couple events with them and get to know people - you can at least get a ride with instructor in any Porsche you can possibly imagine. Also they don't reuqire PCA membership to participate in their events!

If you're concerned about S2000 applicability, I came across this site a while ago. They use Honda/Acura cars including the S2000. They also let you use your own car if you want.

RTR PCA and NNJR PCA will accept M2005 helmets.. They recommend SA.
From NNJR:
From RTR:
Read the fine print. Most Motorcycle helmets are M2005 rated, while most HPDE require SA2005 rating.
From NNJR:
Participants must be at least 18 years old, and have a valid driver's license. Snell M or SA rated 2005 or 2010 helmets are required (SA Highly Recommended).
A Snell 2005 or Snell 2010 helmet is required for all drivers and passengers on the track.

One more question .. I have a motorcycle helmet and wonder if that is good enough for these events. I know it's ok for Auto-x but what about track days?

Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated. As much as I like going to meets and hanging with the guys .. I think I am not doing this car any good keeping it off the track.
