AP2 ECU and getting key recoded
Right now Im running an '00 AP1 ECU on my '05 F22 motor.. I havent gotten any lean codes, rev it up to 8400/8500 once in a while. Motor feels great.
I was going to use my AEM EMS & have Evans do an E tune for me, but I think Id rather get an 05 ECU for the time being. The AEM cold starts and other nonsense is not worth it unless the car is FI
Anyone have an AP2 ECU they would like to trade with me for the AP1 ECU, or have one for sale?
Also what do I do to get my key to work with the AP2 ECU? Price?
thanks

the ap1 ecu on a f22 is fine. plenty of people rev their f22's up to 9k on a ap1 ecu.
if you really want to get a ap2 ecu, you have to go to honda with your current keys and new ecu and have it reprogrammed. its around $100 for them to do it.
just make sure the ecu wiring harnesses are the same for 00 and 05. check part numbers on majestic honda.

the connectors are the same.. I plugged my AP1 ECU into the AP2 engine harness.
I guess I'm just being paranoid, I dont want to lose another motor before I get to boost it again lol
Maybe I will just have Evans do the Etune.. it will only cost $100 as opposed to $200 for ECU & Reprogram. Plus he will get me +30MPG with the AEM
Decisions, decisions

If you do buy an AP2 ECU, try to get a an original key with it. The seller can gring off the teeth on the key for his security.
This will save having to go to the dealer for reprogramming. This way I can make you a copy of your key that will work with the AP2 ecu.

yea that is true as well. you take his ap2 key and tape it to his ap2 ecu.
then you go and have a copy of your key made at a local hardware store for $2 and use that. you cant use your chipped key with his ap2 ecu, so you have to use the $2 copy with no chip in it.
the only drawback from this is theft is easier. the thief can just break your ignition and not worry about removing the immobilizer chip from your ecu in order to start your car.
i only know about this stuff after seeing the attempted theft on grunts car.

or chop the AP2 key & weld on a new shaft to cut to match my ignition

the chip is in the base of the key. its a tiny computer chip that is inside the black part of the key. it would be really hard to cut it out and swap it over to another key. honda just reprograms it instead.
you have 3 options:
1) keep it how it is now, with the ap1 ecu and ap2 motor.
2) buy a ap2 ecu and have honda reprogram it for you for $80-$100
3) buy a ap2 ecu and key and have a copy made of your key and run it like that.
any option will work, it just depends how much you want to spend on a temporary thing until you go fi and back to aem.
if it was me, i would just run the ap2 motor with the ap1 ecu. it holds up fine, just dont take it past 9k. since you control the revs, you can drive it however you want to. you can baby it and change gears at 8k to be safe if you're worried about it.

rev that bitch to 9k, and stop your wineing.
look for a 02-03 ecu and u'll get rid of your lean issue.
