Any trouble running without 3rd brake light?
Hey guys,
If you go to group buy section you see a lot of those BYS spoiler for sell. It replaces our 3rd brake light. I wonder if I get in trouble with cops if I have them installed since I have no 3rd brake light. Thanks.

I looked this up since I was curious myself.
If you live in NY its required and its probably the same in NJ. Its probably a law for the whole country I would guess.
Check out the second page - "High mounted stop lamp"
http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/forms/mv529.p....state.ny.us%22
So the real question is wether any cop would pull you over for it.

it's mandatory for cars made after 1992, I believe. all cars manufactured after that year has 3rd brake light so if they know it was made after 2000 and has no 3rd brake light, they may. it will be as equal chance as not having front plate. one thing for sure, you cannot pass inspection.

for what it was worth it was actually '86 that they became manditory as i remember the 86 vettes and camaro / birds just had it sitting on the hatch glass because they had no time to develop a plan on exisiting models (i used to be an "F" body nut), slowly they became integrated into spoilers and the actual bodywork.

Yes, its illegal, but 95% of cops dont know that. 95% of cops dont know anything about car codes. I mean, Ive gotten pulled over 10 times for HIDs, and the cop's usual response is "I know cars, Hondas dont come with HIDs."
