I'm in the market for a phone right now and my main choices are iphone, g1, and storm.

I tried out the storm yesterday at the verizon wireless store: Sent and received calls was fine, screen takes a little getting used too with the click action but it's very accurate from what a experienced. You just CANNOT type fast. You physically have to click the screen down for each letter and the software limits how fast you can type since it doesn't recognize all the screen clicks.

Other than that, the browser was incredibly slow, and actually FROZE on me in the store

The stores response to that was "well we don't have the updates for the phone installed yet." So i asked how do i get said updates, and they told me they haven't even been released yet!... WTF!

I have all my SMS, MMS, Gtalk convos, AIM Convos, and Blackberry Messenger Convos, work email, and yahoo email in one list!

The iPhone is very nice but Blackberry still has the edge in messaging. If you want to email NOW and want numerous communication methods, you cannot wrong with the Blackberry which has native AIM/Gtalk applications, a properity messaging system among blackberries, and faster "push" email than the Iphone's pull system. Not everyone is this into messaging so therefore it is a moot point. However, I am.

As expected, none of the iPhone owners except spec ops really answered my question when it comes to AIM/Gtalk.

It all depends what is important to you, and I've made up my mind that I will keep my blackberry until the next iPhone comes out. I am confident the future iPhone will probably do it for me. Remember, this is only the second version!

P.S. most iPhone owners get VERY defensive about their phones.
I didn't answer the original question because I don't use AIM or Gchat. However, I fit your bill of being an ex-blackberry owner, and just wanted to share my .03. Regardless, the iphone and it's applications are far more usable for everyday life than a blackberry. I can easily live without gchat or aim, but I couldn't imagine being without safari, google maps, etc etc.

I agree 100% with you with the following change:

The GUI on the Iphone is second to none.
I second that. The UI makes and breaks a lot of the new phone experiences. Think about why upcoming phones are trying to add a layer to the WinMo UI. Just to conceal how crappy the flow to executing a function is.

Get the iPhone.

Nope. That's too much to spend on an app in my opinion. I just have the AIM app downloaded. If I need to reach someone, I'll text them first.
