Any good shops in the Roslyn/Manhassett area?
Hey guys--I'm from the Maryland area looking to buy an AP1 from Long Island. I've read the 'what to look for in a used s2000' sticky in the S2000 Talk section but I'm still inclined to get the car checked by someone more experienced than me.
Right now I'm scheduled to have the car checked out by North Shore Honda (a dealer, but not the one it was purchased from), but I'm wondering if there are any other places you all know of to get this done? Any independent shops in the area who know the car well? Please let me know...

If I were you I would PM Billman250. See if he would make the trip out from Eastern LI to check out the car for you. It would be well worth it for you to pay him, rather than a dealer. He may have even worked on the car and know the car well.
Just my two cents.

Billman is the resident NY s2000 guru and he does sometimes find himself in the western part of LI despite having his usual place far out east.
It is best if the car is as close to stock as possible IMHO. Can you provide any details of the car? Maybe somebody knows it on here and could give some input.

It's a Silverstone 2003 with just under 16,000 miles. The owner is 65 and said he got it new to replace his 911 as a weekend car, but he says he never used it as much as he wanted to (reason he is selling).
The car is 100% stock. No accidents, and everything including the top is supposedly in pristine condition. I'm going to wager the car wasn't driven too hard since it's still on original tires. He said he doesn't have a complete set of maintenance records, but that all the car has needed is a yearly oil change, and that all service has been done at the dealer at which he purchased the car.

That's tough because the book value for this car is $18,700!
But considering you can't get a similar-mileage AP2 for less than $20-21k, I think it's worth it, assuming I bargain down a little.

I know of a GPW ap2 for sale and the guy already has a buyer at 21,500 and he told me if anyone can beat that price he would gladly give it to the highest bidder before the pending offer takes it. It has less than 20k miles on it and super clean. So that sounds about right
