Default ALMS - Petit Le Mans / LAGUNA SECA Thread

SPEED has flag to flag coverage of Petit Le Mans today which should be a great race. It has the stiffest competition since Sebring because Audi and [the 24 Hour of Le Mans winning] Peugeot will be there among others. The question is whether Acura can beat them with their superior cornering prowess or whether the higher straight line speed of the Audi and Peugeot will take them.

Check out this horrific crash involving Scott Sharp from Acura Patron/Highcroft Racing. It's the worst I've ever seen in ALMS. Luckily he walked away without injury and HPD sent a new frame to rebuild the car for today's race.

It sucks that only half of the race was run due to the rain. It was an exciting half, though. Lots of offs and several hits.

DeFerran still has a shot at the P1 championship at Laguna Seca if he wins the race. I'd really love to see that since he's retiring after this year.

I watched a bit...looked like an adventure in the rain...its funny that no matter how many flips and spins they do when they crash they always seem to land right side up

I used to be the same way and now I'm a 100% devoted fan. Two of the aspects that make it exiting for me are the manufacturers are allowed to make the cars pretty much how they want. Mazda is running 2.0L turbo I4 and Acura is running a 3.4L NA V8 in the same class. Bodies and chassis are different as well. It's not cookie-cutter where everyone is competing with the exact same car. The other thing is the inter-class racing. Having two prototype classes and two GT classes on the track at the same time makes for great passes and the traffic that sometimes occurs keeps anyone from running away with a 10 lap victory.

Keep watching and keep posting up and I'll answer any questions I can. Andrew (Cypher09) is also extremely knowledgeable. One more race on 10/10, then we wait for Sebring in March.

ALMS FTW!!!!

Posted on Inside Line and the ALMS site:

Gil de Ferran Named Grand Marshal of Laguna Seca for Last Race and a tribute to Jim Hall at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

Nice tribute for de Ferran. I hope he can pull out a win. If he does he'll end his career on a high note and claim the manufacturers' championship for Acura / de Ferran Motorsports.
