always wondered what happens if you wreck a car at an auto x or on the track, are you responcible, does insurance cover anything? do you stage an accident on the road outside of the track ;-)

Depends on your insurance company/policy. Most don't cover you if it's a "timed event". That's why some tracks tell you that it's a HPDE (education event), it won't be timed so that you can still be covered. But your insurance investigator might not agree.
