Default RSW Driftcross Event #2 - 4/11/09

These events are great for drivers looking for a racing event that is faster than auto-x but not as taxing as open lapping days. Or...you can try your hand at a amateur level drift competition. Sandia Motorsport Park is divided into north and south halves. The drift competition uses the northern half and the auto-x/track crowd uses the southern half. Entrants can choose to participate in either drifting or auto-x...or BOTH! I, personally, compete in the auto-x/track racing portion. Here are the event details -

WHERE - Sandia Motorsport Park (SMP) - here's a LINK for those who have not been to this venue.

WHEN - Saturday the 11th of April. Gates open at 8:00 am and racing is scheduled to start at 9:00 am. Tech inspection starts at 8:30 am and you must have your car teched before the start of the racing or you will not be allowed to participate. Tech inspections are simple - no leaks, battery secured, wheel bearings in satisfactory condition and functional brakes/tires (no cords showing). If your tires are about to cord, DO NOT BRING THEM TO THE TRACK! Cording a tire on the track will usually result in severe loss of traction and you'll get to experience an off-track excursion...or worse.

COST -

Autocross/track racing only - $50
Drifting competition only - $60
Both competitions - $70
Spectator/pit pass - $5, 14 and under get in free & entrants get one person in for free

EVENT DETAILS -

Anyone driving/passenger in a car on course MUST be wearing a helmet. Drivers are allowed to take one passenger with them in their car.

All other details, rules, and car classing can be found on the RSW board. Here is the link - RSW Thread

OTHER - I am co-designing the auto-x/track course, so it will be S2000 friendly! At the last event, STIs and other high HP cars had an advantage. This time, it'll be all about turning ability....where the S2000 really shines! Speeds should be under 90 mph peak.

Hopefully, I'll see a few of you out there!

- Cheers

EDIT: Fixed map link and event date

DO IT!

Here's what I got in response to my question about the UNM FSAE Auto-x -

Farmington is a great venue for auto-xing. The lot is large and in good condition. People often hit low to mid 1.2gs with r-comps on this asphalt. I will not be able to attend the April 18th & 19th event, as I will be in LA for that weekend. However, there is an SCCA event at this venue the following weekend. You can bet money that I'll be at that event. Also, the SCCA Solo II National Tour will be holding an event there on the 15th, 16th, and 17th of May. If you want to see the best of the best, attend this event.

These seem to be popping up on my weekends that I have to work.

Can't call in sick, the military considers that AWOL.

8 days to go ... and counting! The course we've designed should be pretty fun. The speeds we're expecting should be nice on tires (lower than previous RSW Driftcross events) because we're emphasizing momentum conservation and precise turning. As usual, power will help but it shouldn't be the deciding factor at this event.

Hopefully I'll see a few more S2000s out at this event!

Jake
