Gas Mileage vs. Ethanol

Gas Mileage vs. Ethanol
Hi Guys
I'll bet not many of you guys pay much attention to gas mileage since the s2k isn't really purchased for its fuel economy.
But I been known to get upwards of 30 mpg when I am not going too crazy.
What gets me I think is that ethanol gas. I think that ethanol gas gives me mileage in the low 20's and otherwise crappy performance.
Does anybody else see that ... agree or disagree?
Anyone know of gas stations with no ethanol?
Thanks

I have read that ethanol (oxygenated fuel) will result in an approximate 10% reduction in mpg. In the winter months all stations in Bernalillo county have to sell oxygenated fuel. There will be a purple sticker on all of the pumps advising consumers that the fuel contains ethanol. Stations in Rio Rancho (Sandavol county) sell fuel without ethanol during those months. BTW, I got 34 mpg once cruising back from El Paso on I-10. However, most of the time I get in the mid to upper 20's. Probably because I'm pretty heavy-footed on the pedal. Hope this info helps.

I got 32MPG on my way back from vegas with the hard top on, and 31 with the soft top going to vegas. Crusie control was set at 82 MPH almost all the way there. in town i would get ~25. Ethanol fuel will make more horse power.

The proper air/fuel ratio is different with ethanol and requires about 1/3 MORE fuel. Winter gasoline, or gasohol, (can't remember the month range) has 10% ethanol. E85 has...you guessed it....85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. E85 will not necessarily make more HP by just switching. You have to be able to tune your ECU to take advantage of the increase in octane rating. I believe E85 has an octane rating of 105. Pure ethanol, which isn't approved as a vehicle fuel, has an octane rating of 129 - for comparison sake. So...you can run more advance with your timing system and that's where the benefit (increase in HP) comes from. Similar to running race gas...because of the increased octane rating.
Also, you should research whether the fuel system can handle E85 or other high ethanol percentage fuels because of the harm it can cause to rubber. Fuel lines, injector seals, gaskets, etc. will deteriorate much quicker if it's exposed to ethanol and not designed for it.

E85 in the subie is a piece of cake.... it requires more injector and probably a 255 lph fuel pump, but otherwise you're good to go I believe. I considered it for the EVO, but I'll roll with methanol injection and still get the good mileage of regular fuel. Ask Cam about it Kyle.
