Question WTF, Flat tire this morning

Man, Finally get a chance to take the S out this morning. Car was feeling real good. It liked the colder air coming through the comptech intake. Anyway was driving on the Highway when all of a sudden the car becomes a bit squirelly. I've felt this before with other vehicles but not the S. Its actually kind of scary at how well the car handles even with a flat tire. Well here is the interesting part. I can't really find the area that got punctured. There was still some air but not much. I put some fix-a-flat and rolled to my destination. I went to put some air in it and realized that the inner sidewall was getting torn up inside the tire. I could hear it and also potatoes appeared on the inner sidewall of the tire.

Mind you I only have 15,XXX miles on the car with original tires. I still had about 1/16 left on the inner tire indicator. But my car is a 2002. I am wondering since the tires are already 3 years old that they couldn't hold up any longer. I don't think I had a tire pressure problem. I usually check it regularly.

Well 2 new rears have just been ordered from Tirerack.com. I just wish I could of gotten another month out of them before putting the car away for the winter and getting new rubber in the spring.

Just glad car is ok and nothing bad happened.

Sorry to hear about your flat. That stinks she'll be garaged early. Lucky yes, I've heard horror stories with flat tires recently.

Scott we heard you need to change your tires every time you change your oil.

We just put new rears on at 18k.

George you only have 15K on an 2002? You need to get out more.

I am sorry to hear that George.

It could be a slow leak thru the valve stem. No puncture is needed for this kind of leak. It is a sneaky one.

It's the "whipped" effect.

I had this happen to me one with my snow tires from my last car. I would take the tire to a tire shop to see if they can fix it before ordering new tires. Replacing the valve is less than $10.

Sometimes the valve stem is just loosen. Spend 5 bucks and buy a valve stem remover( I learnt it the hard way) and tighten it (snug not overtighten).

Flat tire sucks!

STDS > a flat tire

what's the big deal - i would venture to say that most of us have has less than 5 flats in a LIFETIME

btw if you read the post - you'll see that george's tire is trash - a valve stem tool won't help him now
