Good to hear the rate is decreasing again. I did just read a study that claims living together before marriage actually increases the divorce rate though.
They don't go into specifics of why but the rate is nearly double those of people who do not live together before hand.
They do say that the longer you live together the less your chance of getting divorced however to have the same chances of NOT getting divorced as people who don't live together, you have to live together 8 years before marriage. Most people don't get anywhere close to that. I did but it still did not help
And as far as "It's cheapa to keepa" -- my incentive for awhile was keeping my health insurance. It's expensive to get on your own as a self employed person I'm going to miss my free coverage when the time comes but that's hardly a good reason to stay together.

Jerry agree with your timing note as well. Hence the old saying "timing is everything" Not to mention "Location". So many variables.
The best way to meet people you will have something in common with is being yourself and doing the things that YOU enjoy doing.

It's hard to find someone (at least, at my age) that's realized that it's not a bad thing if two people aren't compatible and that timing has a lot to do with that.
Take my latest gf (who just broke up w/me via email direct from Iraq), we were a really good match. Unfortunately, I had to move (was already done deal before we started dating) and she's not ready to give up her AF career and friends here in Phx to move to NY.
As much as it hurts, I completely understand how she feels. I've been there, and I hope that she and I can be friends still.

Sorry to hear that John. That's one thing that is a somewhat "new" issue - both people having careers they are tied to.
Used to be the man moved and the woman moved with him. Now women have just as high paying/powered/attached to careers in some cases and not going to give that up.
Another thing I love about what I do - I can work anywhere there is an internet connection Oh, and of course a decent race track within 3 or 4 hours drive

Well, it's a bit more involved than that. She's a very giving person, and she's given up a lot for the guys she's dated/married. Since she just recently finalized her 2nd divorce, she's looking to live her own life for awhile. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean moving to New York. Like I said, I've been in her shoes, and I completely understand how she feels. I'd rather have her happy in Phoenix, than miserable with me in NY.
