What would you pay?
For your consideration, a 2005 Honda Civic Si Hatchback. One owner car. Almost 90,000 miles on it. The car is silver. It had five or six pea size dings and some scratches and paint chips, especially on the front and rear bumpers and a little bit on the rocker extensions. All of the wheels have some rash.
The owner is a married woman with two kids who used the car for work. she ahs an envelope full of receipts for all oil changes. No mods whatsoever.
The car is a manual and the tranny shifts well. the clutch feels ok for a car with nearly 90K. the tires feel like they have 30K miles to go. It drove tight, no rattles, it was not beat. Like every Si I've ever seen, it has the sunroof, a/c, power windows and mirrors. It is also equipped with a lo-jack.
If I bought it, I'd replace the brake pads and brake fluid, adjust the clutch pedal and probably schedule a timing belt for it in the next six months.

Well, the two opinions so far are pretty far apart. Any other thoughts?

A Civic Si thread always excites me. The EP3 is a classic shape IMO. I did look at buying one in the past and talked to several dealers. No one was willing to budge on the price they'd set.
These cars were all priced above $10,000.00 and none was willing to come down to the $7500-$8000 I was prepared to pay. The cars I looked at had lower mileage (50-65K miles) and that could explain the price difference.
In my opinion, if the car were really clean and had no major issues I'd pay up to $7500 for it, possibly more because I really like that shape. The EP3 was manufactured in Swindon, England but did not have the Type-R engine that was capable of 200HP. It was underpowered at that time and sold in limited quantities, but it was unique and you can tell it apart from a regular Civic from a mile away. The Si's that came later are more capable ( I have one of them), but hew very close to the standard Civic designs.
If you haven't I'd also suggest test driving an 06 Si Coupe. This will be more expensive (around 10K) but it has better handling and more power. Hope this helps.

The crazy thing is the EP3 Si was a bastard child in the Civic Si family during its production run. Dealers were giving huge discount on them... well below invoice and leasing was only at about $199/mo (result of combination of high residual value from prev gen Civic Si and lack of demand for the then current EP3). And then like a good movie that was a dud at the theater but became a hit when it released on DVD, the EP3 suddenly became a cult favorite after its production ended.
I looked into it when I was looking for a daily driver. I couldn't justify its prices. For the money, RSX is a better value as a daily driver. EP3 has a premium for its cool factor and exclusivity.

How much is she asking for it though?
The things that attract me to this car:
- Responsible Owner (not someone that drives the car like she stole it)
- Clean Condition, except for minor dings (My 08 has a ding, and it was not my fault)
- Tires have signifcant tread life.
- No modifications (When I buy used, I prefer a car to be in original condition)
- I like the Recaro seats Honda put in that car. Better than the seats in the S
- Unique shape.
If I could I'd buy one and keep it in pristibe unmodded condition for a long time to come.
