I've never dropped any weight in the trunk and I've spent two winters in Boston. Other than a bit of "Oh Shit!"-handle gripping once or twice, it's been fine.

Buy a Subaru WRX for the winter. WRX and S2000, have fun in all kinds of weather!

Winter driving is not a problem if you take care of the car. I have used mine for the past 2 years without a problem. Properly equipt it will serve you well. Do a search on winter driving and you will find a lot of people who drive the car year round. You will also see that Blizzaks are the winter tire of choice.

I agree, to each his own, xv. And, don't get me wrong... I enjoy winter driving. Clearly we disagree here.

I think you were misinterpreting some of the stuff I said, but please don't refute my ice slab anecdote just because it didn't happen to you. It happened to me in an '82 Prelude and I am not alone here in NE. You'll just have to trust me on that. The truck drivers and SUV/minivan drivers are very lazy / sloppy and often don't clean their cars off on top.

And, by the way, I wasn't comparing winters with your area. This is a New England part of the forum, and our last 2 NE winters have been a joke compared to previous years.

Whatever, xv. You wanna flame my winter driving skills and tout your own, go ahead. I'm just telling Hobb here how I see it, and, you know, he asked...

I stock up on 2 stroke oil and fire up my snowmobile! Seriously though Hobb a good cheap way is to buy a good front wheel drive car and put some studded snow tires on it you should be all set. I had a crx I did this on a couple of years ago and never got stuck and that was actually a winter were we got some snowfall. I would be afraid of driving a nice car in winter because of the ice not the snow.

I appreciate all opinions. It truly is a question of loving this car so much that I dont want to drive it in the winter..while at the same time loving it enough that I just want to drive it. However..as I hope to keep this car for a long time..I think I will err on the side of caution and buy a crasher for the winter.

Part of this reason is that I truly think that we are due for a hard winter. Second of all..my career does not allow for me to go in late or not go in at all despite the worst of weathers. Thus I think I will need the extra car just to be safe.

thanks again for all opinions. If you have suggestions on a 2-4k car I would appreciate it.

Hobb
