last night I was bored so I went down in the garage to stare at the "S" . Then I spotted my dad's jack its a 2 ton (wouldnt fit under anywhere) Thought some more what to do? ahhhh hah... the stock jack in the trunk ....i pull the whole assemblly for the tools that change the spare and under that the carpet was wet, not a puddle but it was def. soggy and the car had been sitting in a heated garage for atleast 2 days since the last time i washed it and i havent driven it in the rain since last season so i dont know why it wouldnt have dried up has anyone heard of this before

Can't help you out with the leakage as far as the S goes - we have a Z but on our '99 Miata we would experience the same thing. It appeared as though if too much water pressure was hitting the trunk seal the water would seep in and soak the mat and sometimes gather in the spare tire well. You just have to make sure when washing that you don't apply any direct water pressure to the trunk (seal) areas and after that we were fine.

i would first dry the carpet and use Shunzu grease on all the seals -

then spray the trunk and see if it leaks -

BTW who has my grease??

I had the same issue on a Camry. Rain or snow would not get in the trunk but a direct shot from the hose would. Like Bass says, try the grease and don't spray too hard on the trunk seams.

Check this out, some good tips:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=270059

If this is not enough, do a search for "+water +trunk"

I had this problem once and so did many other people.

Good luck!
