Lainey,
My wife & I went to Lake Placid for our honeymoon. But weather was not so great, so we bailed and spent a few days in Montreal. Stayed at the Fairmount, Queen Elizabeth. Mostly took the metro. So always below ground and don't remember much.
This trip was 39 years later. Stayed at the Fairmount, Queen Elizabeth again. This time we could afford taxis, so got a better view of the city. It's agood 3 day city.
This weekend, to Rochester to pick up ladders I lent son-in-law. Maybe Clarence (Buffalo) as well to see mother-in-law. Maybe Elizabethtown, New York (near Lake Placid) if I can pry wife away from grandchildren.

I need to get a bunch of important stuff.
The problem is that my birthday falls too cloase to Christmas, so everyone thinks that I have two holidays for gifts - with the result that no one gets me anything for either event. Well, maybe I'm too harsh. I remember when my kids were little, they made me these little, dumb cards in art class that I was supposed to hang on the fridge. But that was long ago when my kids were still speaking to me.
So this year, I hear that there is going to be a super large crowd at my daughter's house for Thanksgiving. My younger sister and family were invited and will be there from Florida. My daughter's in-laws will be there and maybe even Aunt Linda from that side of the family. Even Disgruntled Publicus is invited. So the whole disfunctional crowd should be there. (And if someone brings the Festivus Pole, it should be fun. I'm pretty good at the "airing of grievances", but fall short in the "feats of strength" Disgruntled, however, is master of All!)
But I'm invited for some lame reasons. They don't need my generator now that LIPA restored power, so I'm summoned to get it "out of the way". (They gave my gas can and 5 gallons of premium away to some looser with an an odd numbered license plate in NJ, so what good is the generator now?) Plus I picked up a radiator at a house wrecking place in Rochester last weekend that they want delivered. Finally I had to go damn near all the way to Plattsburgh to pick up the power washer that they want returned. ("Oh, by the way Jeff, why don't you wash the house while the turkey is basting.")
In any event, here's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking that with the big crowd all assembled, that I should spend this weekend wisely and prepare my Christmas list. There's a whole bunch of stuff I need - random orbital polisher, microphone and skeleton housing for the Go-Pro, close ratio transmission, tachometer cable, race prepped engine, Nomex underwear, ski equipment - and a whole bunch of other important stuff.
Should I make a list? Should I make place settings with pictures of the items I want? Think of the fight over seating!
If I use a list, do I pull it out of my coat and read to the assembled masses at the beginning of the meal? Can I extract some commitments from the unwary with that approach?. Or would it be better to wait until later before and presenting copies of my list to all?
These are all issues that need careful planning and that's what I plan to do this weekend.
Luucky Disgruntled is scheduled for early holiday relaease. With his week's worth of strong medication, we should have everything planned out by Monday.

Gee Jeff, I think you should run away to the Caribbean instead of hanging around here for Turkey Day festivities.
Our weekend. Quiet. Saturday, Zumba, kid duty, hope to spend some time with my grandson taking some pics, maybe time with the Granddaughter doing some shopping. Usual Saturday night dinner/date night with /> , Sunday not sure. Plenty to do on the homefront.

I'm thinking about thinking to put up the Christmas tree this weekend.
Some of those freeloaders from Thanksgiving day have invited themselves to my house for Christmas and are threatening to sleep over.
