Warning system when you don't park in gear?
The place I'm renting has a really steep driveway. I'm afraid one of these days I or my wife will forget to leave the car in gear after parking and it will roll down straight onto Rt.28! We have both been driving manual transmission cars all our lives so it's second nature for us to leave the car in gear and apply the parking as well. Still, with all the distractions these days, e.g. cell phones, I'm afraid one of these days it could happen. If the car rolls down onto to the road it will either hit another car on the road or cross the road and crash into the house on the other side and land into their living room.
So, is there such a warning system? Don't the remote starters tap into a switch on the tranny to figure this out?
Thanks!

Remember to turn your wheels to/from the curb (hoping you have a curb...) so that if the car does go, it will hit the curb instead of traffic!

Hey Mas
the switch is reversed for the remote start - it will see that the car is in neutral via a switch (or the clutch is engaged) in order to actiavte the remote starter -
I am sure Scott could wire up something to buzz if the car is in neutral but I have never heard of such a thing out of a box might be pricy though

you could always get a set of chock blocks to put behind the wheels
or kick a 2 x 4 behind it a night.

Yes, I am really worried, specially with the cold days approaching.
The parking brake cannot be relied upon in my situation cause of the incline. If I can remember to put blocks behind the car, I can leave it in gear as well. It's just that I am afraid one of these days I will forget to do so.
Have the "headlights on" warning sound never saved you from being stranded somewhere? I'm not worried about what happens to my car but rather damages to other people's property or even worst.
I need to take a picture of the driveway for you guys....

again i am pretty sure Scott aka twized can make something for you - BUT another thought is to ask Macgyver (Dan) if there is a way to tap in a buzzer into the clutch switch - after all the car wont start unless you press the clutch in
