Question, how hard is it to change the transmission oil yourself? Things are kind of tight in the S-is it easily accessible? If I put it up on jackstands?

easy as pie

un do two bolts ( one is a 17mm and just a socket wrench)

drain - put the drain plug in and pump new fluid into the fill hole (just under two quarts)

Make sure that the car is elevated totally level when doing this or you won't get a good drain at all. Either jackstand all four wheels or use a lift.

How can you tell if you are getting the "new" Honda MTF if you
go to a dealer and buy it? Is it possible dealers would liquidate
their "old" stuff before selling the "new" stuff?
The "new" stuff has been around for a few years now so they should out of the older version by now. to be sure, here is the Honda part number: 08798-9031

Honda new MTF FTW, BTW if you go to the dealership and look at a quart its says reformulated right on the bottle. I was in there last week and noticed it. I have to go get 2 quarts as im changing mine next week.

Dave,
it's pretty easy.
first you go to the honda dealer and buy the fluid and replacement O-rings. ( there are 2 and they are different)
next you go to the package store an buy a six of Sam Adams or equivalent.
pull the car onto Ericks lift.
open the beer for Erick and while your at it open one for yourself.

it's about this point that Erick has the car done.

seriously it's not hard if the car is up and level.
you have an upper fill plug and a lower drain plug.
Drain via the drain plug and replace and fill via the upper fill plug.
The key is to have the fluid pump to get the new fluid up into the tranny.
When it drips back out your done.
Having stood there like a beer drinking 'tard watching Erick, it's pretty easy.
the biggest pain would be getting the car up and moderately level.

One last tip:

Make sure the top bolt will break loose before draining with the bottom one. that way if the fill bolt can't be freed, you haven't drained anything yet.
