And then this other one getting offers of $1,200+ for a set w/ 3k mi. on them (that's 1/3 tire life for the rears).

This deal would only make sense for those w/ pretty worn tires on their 16's. Their excellent tires have little value to me since they go right to the dealer anyway.
Price on RE050 at Tirerack (fwiw):
F: $165 (2) = $330
R: $200* (2) = $400
Shipping: $12 (4) = $48
M+B: $20 (4) = $80
Total: $858
*There are several prices in that size ranging from $200 - $250. I picked $200 to be conservative.

Ben - let's talk on the ride down to the autoshow - I can afford down time with the S as you trade in your S for the new one and I have a Passat that can fit the old and new wheels
