Kenta and Dave, I figure tips pretty much the same way. First I double the first digit. The I look at the next. If it is 5 or under, I drop a buck or two. If it is 6 to 9.99, I leave it at double, or just drop it a buck if i want to tip closer to 17%

Question - What do ya'll take the % from for a tip?? Do you use the grand total, or the sub total before taxes?

If I think the service was better than par, I'll tip 20% on the sub total, then round up to the nearest dollar.
If I think the service was under par, then the % goes down depending on the degree of bad service.
Really bad service, gets no tip......never thought about leaving 2 cents....I like it.

All tips should be figured on the food total minus tax. Im willing to bet a lot tip on the tax also.

I guess the waiters/waitresses are generally happy to wait on us. We tip on the total, not the total minus tax, and it's almost always 20%. If we have a "dine out" coupon, Rick is sure to tip on the total before the discount.

It pays off. When we arrive at a local place we frequent, right after we are seated, a Bass ale is placed in front of Rick and a diet Coke in front of me.

I don't think it is worth the trouble and tip on the bottom line. If the tax on a $100 bill is $8 then we are talking about $1.60.

Thats another $1.60 that is spent. But everybody does it different. I just prefer to hold onto the hard earned dollar and be fair to the wait staff at the same time. I used to be a wise guy and say hey give me the extra its$1.60 in this case most people I would make this comment to would go no way! Than I would say why not and they go why am i going to just give you $1.60 or whatever the amt would be. My response well since your giving $ away I figured I would ask for my share. Never did get anyone to give me any $ though But I have gotten a few to think about it. It is funny though that they would think nothing of dropping it in the tip but to actually hand it over to someone would kill them.

Mr. Pink: I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
