Could your friend have been "observed" by said officer perhaps, not quite obeying other rules of the road,( a little "improper acceleration" following too closely, improper lane changes ) and then he just got stopped a bit down the line? End result a ticket for 1 mph over the limit, and the officer "looking the other way" to other possible offenses?

Considering most automobiles ca have up to a 5% variation in acutal/displayed speed....this should be contested in court.....
I wonder how the Judge will feel about this waste of state resources.

Honestly I dont think I would believe this without seeing the ticket.

I am raising the on this one. Even if he was having a competition of some sort trying to get a bunch of tickets, at any given time on any road, you can find someone going 15+ the posted limit.

And Bruce, to answer your question, 1-10MPH is $100 when you include the head trauma surcharge. It then goes up $10 for each MPH over that.

Jeff, isn't it written somewhere about a 5 mph buffer due to inaccuracies in speedometers and speed enforcement measures?

I would imagine this falls under the "unwritten rule" category.

There was one time I got pulled over by a cop at a intersection (for some newly installed stop sign). He pulled over at lease 5 cars one by one like that and giving them tickets. Five cars are on the side of the road.

I picked up my notepad, write down all their license plate numbers and made sure he saw me doing that.

He gave me a warning without saying anything.

I wonder why?

why do you think you got a warning?? because i honestly have no idea what you're trying to imply

you wrote other people's plate numbers down for what reason? class action suit and how do you know everyone else got a ticket?? maybe they got warnings too??

Probably because the first week or so of a newly installed stop sign they detail an officer to hand out written warnings at that location to improve awareness. Driving by and seeing 5 cars pulled over for a stop sign gets the word out fairly quick. Also, just because a sign is new does not make it any less legitimate. It takes almost an act of congress to get one erected in most cases.
