Teach me about TV's
#21
I'm the opposite. When I watch TV or play games I just use the built in speakers on the TV. I don't need to hear the dialog in "Community" in surround sound and with a subwoofer. IMHO the TV is decent the sound will be acceptable for regular shows and the news. I only fire up my audio system when watching a movie.

Pshhh, I've got you all beat... I'm rockin' a 32" 4:3 ratio Sony WEGA CRT (tube) TV - 720p/1080i high def. Ultrafast refresh rate, bright colors, the blackest blacks, and it even has decent speakers because size isn't an issue. It's 160 lbs of pure audiovisual awesomeness.
We do actually watch a fair amount of TV on it, but to be honest, the only desire to upgrade is to have more HDMI ports. Sure, a larger screen would be nice, but the picture quality is pretty hard to beat on the thing.
Because of the baby, I rarely turn on the external speakers since we tend to keep the volume low. Even though I do on occasion, I haven't even bothered hooking up the surround sound since we moved over a year ago - just an older pair of Polk towers. It does sound a lot better, but usually I'm too lazy to bother.
But I do like surprising people with my High-def tube TV.

I have a friend who's an audio/video nerd. He says all the videophiles prefer plasma. So I bought a Panasonic Viera a year and a half ago and thus far no complaints. Honestly in the store the LCD looked brighter (better?) to me but I still went with Plasma based on his advise.

Yes, videophiles still prefer plasma. I've lurked around Audio Visual forums and the majoriy prefer plasma.
They also recommend leaving your brand new plasma on for 100 hours(not still images of course) before making any adjustments. This supposedly reduces chance of burn in and gives your tv it's full color/blackness potential. Too hardcore for me.
I never did it with mine though, seeing as how i replace technology in my house every other year.
