So pretty much a few government towny type people blow off the studys... (because they must know better) and in all their combined wisdom just make up "speed limits"
This is such BS!

Route 146
Most of Route 146 has been the subject of an engineering speed study within the past 15 years. This is due to reconstruction since the 1960s.
Worcester
The 55 mile per hour posting on the new highway in Worcester appears to be arbitrary; it was posted as an extension of the speed zone in Millbury.
Millbury
An engineering study in 2005 recommended a 65 mile per hour speed limit on all of Route 146 in Millbury, consistent with 85th percentile speeds. Instead the north half of the road was posted 55 and the south half 50.
Sutton to Rhode Island
A speed study in 1998 found an 85th percentile speed near 70. The road was posted 65 instead from Rhode Island to about halfway through Sutton. The speed limit in the north half of Sutton had been 60 until lowered by the NMSL.
I think I will save this part for the Troopers that litter Sutton and Millbury on 146. I am sure once they read this they will mend their evil ways.

I don't plan on reading more than the first few lines of that as it is just waaaay to long, but I will offer this:
If this was true and a valid defense for speeding tickets, I am sure some astute lawyer would have realized this decades ago and not one fine would have been paid since. Personally, I would love to be a fly on the wall to see the judge's reaction to the hour long sermon one would need to deliver in court in an attempt to evade a $150 ticket using this method. Planning on testing it out John?
I would like to read Bill's take on this...

Don't take offence Jeff, plenty of people get tickets and should get them... but I've caught more than one cop lying in court and trying to screw me over.
I have nothing against cops. I have a few in the family, I know a LOT personally, I have close friends in the FBI and so on... but sometimes cops just don't use good judgement and/or common sense.
I take every single ticket I get to court... I've lost once, out of maybe 10 times.
The law is the law... but it works in both directions

So John, you will have to explain to me what happened that these guys lied with you next time we are together. I for the life of me can't imagine why a cop would pull someone over for doing nothing when there is such an abundance of people who are actualy doing somehting wrong. Especialy since there are no quotas and the cop gets no money out of the ticket. Maybe it's because I work in a fairly busy city and traffic enforcement is just above a parking ticket on the list of priorities
