I agree Ben, cars today are pigs. Soemone above thinks 2000 pounds is light. Back in the day, that was the typical weight for an average sports car. Lightweight sports cars weighed 1000 to 1300 pounds.
The only thing getting lighter in cars is the drive train and suspension components. The real answer is to put a modern engine/tranny into an older car and add about another 100-150 pounds beefing up the chassis and brakes.

Bill's got it right.
I seem to remember that my AH sprite was about 1400 pounds.
ok I looked it up and it was 1566 lbs.

When the last gen RX-7 came out....it was 2800ish pounds. Still heavy by old school standards, but much safer too....and 900 lbs less than a M3.

Isn't all the extra poundage a result of the ever increasing numbers game with HP? The more HP, the bigger the engine, the bigger the suspension, brakes, wheels, differential, stiffer chassis...etc.
