While not common , You should check it for crank walk before you pull the tranny . Just a last minute thought as Devs2k has this issue . Granted he has a aftermarket clutch . But it only takes a minute to check anyway

I think what he means is crankwalk?

Movement of the crank out of stock specifications. All crank moves left to right. An excessive lateral crank movement will hit, grind and destroy the crank sensor.

I don't know what is the relation between your problem grinding gears & hard shifting.
Perhaps he can explain that to us.

Welp took the tranny off tonight and found a broken clutch disc. the metal house around the soring broke off and was wedged in the spring lol.

Ps s2k was the hardest tranny i ever had to take out lol.

Glad you took the drastic solution and found the problem.

Yep! the s2000 tranny is bulky and heavy...very limited space to wiggle and to pull the housing from the spline.

Crankwalk is when the thrust bearing is no good and the crank moves in and out . So if you push the clutch the flywheel and crank move . This takes away from being to disengage the clutch as you are not pulling on the clutch splines , but instead just moving the whole assembly .

In my old car I actually had the same issue except one of the springs broke into a bunch of pieces and got lodged in various places. Driving to the shop I was able to get it in 2nd gear after ganking the level with both hands. Ended up leaving it there the entire time and took backroads.

Time for an upgrade!
