Keep bragging! I can't even get my DSL to work at home.

Few days ago, the shortcut icon to DUN stopped working. Connection setup appears to have gone bad. I tried re-installing it w/ the ISP setup disk and got stonewalled by "DUN cannot be found or unable to create new DUN" error.

Tried re-creating the DUN manually and got stonewalled again. This time by the ghosted-out "create connection w/ user id and password" option. This appears to be the cause of the problem. WTF!! I hope I don't have to reinstall my OS... sigh

Yes, it is a Calix DSLAM and you're right the actual throughput would be lower considering overhead in both TCP/IP and ATM. Consider that the ATM overhead is roughly 10% of every cell transmitted, that brings it down to like 14.4Mb. Add on top of that the overhead of TCP/IP (figure you'll be able to transfer about 80-90% of the circuit before error correction and retransmits start to become a problem) it puts you at something like 12-13Mb/s. Then since there are very few places on the Internet capable of sustaining a 10Mb/s+ transfer rate... it's not really that relevant anyway - but local transfers for anyone in the area is nice!

Just a note about those speed-test sites... those are measuring your throughput across the Internet, to that speedtest site - not your actual connection size. If the speedtest site has problems with their connection (considering these sites host this for thousands, if not millions of users it's quite likely they have a bandwidth problem) then your connection will look slow. We have a terrible time with customers using these and then complaining that they have a slow connection. The fun part is if they go to a different speedtest web site they get vastly different results... while the path across the Internet may be different, it does demonstrate that the "connection" speed is not being accurately measured.
