OK guys I feel compelled to write up this note. Yesterday I went to my first driving school at NHIS through www.SCDA1.com and even in the rain it was truly the BEST event I have ever participated in. For those that have been to others at Limerock and the Glenns this may come as no surprise. But for those that have NEVER taken their Honda to a track this was an amazing experience..... and it rained all day long. Even with the rain it was well worth it. I can only begin to imagine how fun it will be in the dry weather. I have been looking for some time at someplace I could push my car in a safe and controlled environment...this is it.

Now, please do not let the term "driving school" give you the wrong idea.... this was a school with some class time learning about racing no doubt but combined was LOTS of time on the track with an instructor riding shot gun and you actually doing it....putting to the test what you just learned in the class as well as puting to work your own driving skills.... the instructors were helpful, experienced, friendly and just god people.... finally a place you can PUSH the s2k to its fullest potential. I have been to new england dragway and that does not even COME close.

It would be killer to get a bunch of S2K people together to do such an event...I was the only one there with the Honda (other cars were elise, STI's, Porsche, M3, Mini's, RX8's, 350Z'z, TT's etc...) the next one is June 6 and then like July 11nth or something. If you are looking for a HEART pounding, adrenalin rich, educational event organized by friendly, professional, knowledgeable and helpful people I would say to check this out... This guy Ian who runs this www.scda1.com really has it down and delivers way over expectation....Know this was my first event so still a novice compared to some others...... this was just a super mix of hands on, hard core driving that just can not be duplicated on the street anywhere.

would anyone be interested... getting a group of passionate s2k members up there.... NHIS .....it was the best 235 dollars I have ever spent......

Were you in an s2000? Do you have an aftermarket roll bar?
According to scda's website:

For safety reasons, all convertibles (Boxster, Miata, Corvette, Z3, etc.) are required to have a roll bar that meets the following two criteria in order to be eligible to run during any event. 1) The roll bar must be in the fixed position and visible at all times. This means that roll bars which are designed to automatically deploy are not acceptable unless they are in the full upright and locked position at all times. 2) The roll bar must allow the driver to pass the "broomstick" test which means that the top of the drivers helmet must be below the line from the top of the roll bar to the top of the windshield. There are aftermarket roll bars and/or seats which can be used to help meet these requirements. If your convertible meets these standards, then you are welcome to participate! Factory hard tops are acceptable, as well.

 

I was in the s2k and NO roll bar needed through scda and on the NHIS track.... can not do lime rock though with NO roll bar, if I want to do limerock need a roll bar....

 

So did you pass a "broomstick" test or is the NHIS event exempt?

 

NHIS is broomstick exempt...unless they have changed things. We cant go to LRP stock. For that track you will need a proper roll bar setup.
I have run with SCDA now for 4 years.
I didnt go yesterday due to the rain.
Ian runs a good show.
Many of us have been to the events before.

Great, what an event..... I am hooked.....

 

For those people interested but not sure about running on a track the COM Sports Car Club is having a driving school @ NHIS on Mon,Memorial Day. The event itself is booked and rollbars are mandentory,But if you want to come up and see what is going on admission is free with paddock access. You can even sit in on the classroom session if you want. The june 6th SCDA event looks good to me. Grove

$ for $ SCDA rocks. Oh PLEASE!!! A one day event @ NHIS w/SCDA costs $235. A TWO day event (driving school,time trial) w/COM costs $280 total for both days!
