Default Painting brake calipers

This is a two part inquiry....

First I see many paint the calipers without preping them first. What do you guys think of this? I would never paint something without sanding it, priming it, etc....

Next is what color do you think goes best with a Black Berlina?

I purchased a kit called G2. It comes with an aerosol cleaner/degreaser. A paint brush, paint and a special paint hardening agent. Did all 4 calipers in under 2 hours. Came out great, I recommend it highly, a bit expensive though $50. On a Black Berlina I think red would look nice.

all i did was clean my calipers with brake cleaner and then coated them with some black hi-temp engine paint.. three coats and they look pretty good - total expense = $10.00

I know Macgyver sanded his down with his with a dremmal..

side note - once you have your rims off, take the time to clean them inside and out and coat them with five or six coats of zaino - or your rims will turn black - mine were aweful after one winter

MacGyver....Dremel tool...I thought Dan told me he was allergic to the Dremel...He got like two injuries from it. Anyhow, Have you found that painting them makes it easier to clean them?

PS haven't bought into the zaino thing yet.. but I'll be sure to put a few coats of meguiers on it. thanks for the tip...

I'm thinking of a Chrome flashy color.. but I don't know if it's available in high temp nor how it'll take and look in 8 months..

I used the Folia Tec kit on mine, which is the same thing as the G2, but a few bucks less and available for next day delivery at local speedshops that use Keystone. Here is the link, my pics are about half way down the thread:

I prepped it with small wire brushes first, then used the supplied spray cleaner and finaly masked it off. I chose black which matched the Berlina paint on the car quite well. I like the subdued look on my car though, so if you are looking for a contrasting color, I would say red or silver.

Sounds like a great effort with great results!!!! I don't have fancy rims like yours... so I guess I'll go with a fancy color...silver might look nice..

The whole process took maybe two and a half hours. Not bad considering I hear this stuff holds up and you will likely never have to do it again. Personaly, I think silver is the way to go with the black, good choice.
