Need advice/opinions
I know there have been many posts on this topic, I just wanted to float this version and see what you folks have to offer.
My daughter was driving home from school up in Ithaca, NY last Sunday. We live in central Connecticut. She got radar tagged for doing 80 in a 65 zone somewhere in Sullivan county, NY, about 2-3 hours away from home. Obviously, she is bummed out and remorseful. Silly girl, she told the officer she was doing 85, but he ticketed her for 80.
My instinct is to send in the guilty plea and let her insurance do what it may. The ticket doesn't say how much the fine will be. Does anyone know? Will her insurance in Connecticut go up for a New York ticket? Are there any creative options I should consider?
Thanks for any and all input.

If there is no reciprocity you are scott free on the insurance penalties. As far as fighting it she already admitted her guilt to the officer, might not stand much of a chance in court.
Pay it and forget about it, of course she needs to slow down.

From my point of view, check off the guilty box and follow the instructions on the ticket. They will get back to you with the fee. The last ticket I got was 71 in 55, I was coasting down a huge hill in a borrowed vehicle and I just had no idea I was going that fast. I went to court, asked to speak to the public defender. He looked at my long history of no tickets and pleaded it down to a non-moving vipolation, 2-points, no big deal. I was VERY lucky.

i would just call your insuance agent and ask them if you'll get the surcharges
I thought you are allowed one "incident" before they tack on points

CT does have reciprocity with New York.
I grew up on the NY border of CT.
*** I should modify that I've heard of people who have gotten tickets in NY and it's never shown up on their record... but I don't know if that's because of lousy paperwork or perhaps some recent change in agreements.

I know she was lucky to only get cited for 15 over. I suspect the cop was giving her a break. We had a stern talk about the dangers of speeding and I actually think this may be a good wake up call before she gets hurt, or hurts someone else because of driving too fast.
I'll probably just send it in marked "guilty". I just wanted to check with the vast storehouse of knowlege contained by the members here.
Thanks all.

I may have to stand corrected... I'd always heard that CT belonged to a reciprocal agreement group that included NY, but there are varying descriptions of what that actually means. They likely report revoked licenses and DUIs, and also have an agreement on whether or not a resident moving from one state needs to re-test for a license in the new one or just apply for it. Either way, I've asked around and I've heard of several people being ticketed in NY and CT never got word of it.
Regardless, just beacuse the state doesn't find out doesn't mean your insurance company won't. And the result of whether or not you pay it or contest it is probably irrelevant - if the insurance company is going to find out, they'll find out either way.
So paying it and getting it over with is probably the best bet. Just don't volunteer that info to the insurance company in the future.

if she already told the cop she was doing 85, reach for your checkbook....
I got whacked doing 92 in a 55 in NY 2 days after getting my license
I mailed the ticket in with a guilty plea and got my fine in the mail a while later. A whopping $100.
Maybe the magistrate or clerk or whatever was being nice because it was on my birthday but either way I was stoked for only paying $100.
