depending on the ISP..i think going with php will probably serve as a suitable and managable foundation for the site. Unless we are going to get crazy...things like perl and java are probably a little too high powered.

I'd like to see what your friend d2d has...in the least we can use it as a springboard for ideas.

Glenn,

I'm be 99% sure that what he has designed would not involve any of those funky languages, but plain HTML and graphics. Shouldn't be a problem.

If he is interested in sharing with us, perhaps he could ZIP up the site and send it to me, and I'll post it out there where the "Web committee" view and comment.

I hope d2d is ok with me doing this... but I do like the overall layout of this. Please be warned that this is only a quick mock up from a site he currently has... and he just moved things around and added some text....

So please be nice

What I like is the calendar, story board (we can use this section for upcomming events and new news about the club) and more...

take a look... and I hope d2d jumps in here soon.

But I have to leave now... so I'll be back here tomorrow............

I like the site, but if we go w/ PHP, we'll need to pay for a host.

Hey all, it's using geeklog, which is a blogger on crack essentially. events, static pages, multi-user stuff, news etc. No real forums, but that's fine for us since we use this.

only catch is what it requires to run.

php, and mysql.

I have this running on a solaris box, could easily run on a linux box, and probably an NT box too (I think php and mysql work under NT...would probably want apache as a webserver).

it's fairly easy to use/post/update etc. would need to customize it and such, but since it's all php customizing is pretty easy to do.

Share your thoughts! It's far from perfect, but I think it could be made perfect...and btw..this is just a sample site...so no flaming on the colors etc please

Edit: Being that it uses a database backend, and scripting front end, dynamic content is incredibly easy...so is customization. If you've ever worked with any scripting language, you'd find php to be fairly straight-forward in comparison (btw, s2ki appears to be written in php). As mentioned, it's not a forum, it's a news portal by design.

There are alternatives to hosting....but that's not something I want to discuss in public like this. Would rather take hosting talk to PM's, or any less-public means.

I'm dahn2dusq on aim if anyone's using that.
