Default Natural Gas for heating...

If you use natural gas to heat, do you ever mess with the furnace yourself?

Our son had an issue this weekend. He's not mechanically inclined. Rick thought of heading over there, but he has more than a healthy respect for the fact that natural gas can go "BOOM!" Do it yourself can be costly. Our son got a recommendation for a repair guy, and lucked out. The guy lived in his neighborhood and didn't charge OT for the Saturday visit.

Anyway, a minor repair was needed.

Just curious. Who messes with natural gas?

And no jokes.....

I screw with plumbing and even electric. No way in F do I mess with gas. My buddy owned the house next door from the one that exploded last year in Somerset. I don't think he does his own gas either

I had a problem with the ignitor 2 years ago.....a resistive heating element that fired the burner. I replaced it myself and I'll do some light cleaning of the burners and other equipment. There are so many safety interlocks on modern systems....as long as those all work..I don;t worry.

Seems like you are in the majority.

My son thought it might just be the pilot and the pilot was out, but there was some kind of conducting wire or something that needed replacing. I'm glad he didn't make any attempts to mess with it.

I tend to dive in and do anything around the house, but natural gas, nah.
To tough to check and the consequences for a screw up are generally rather dire.

fortunately, I never screw up.
unfortunately, I don't have natural gas.
I wish I did, I'd love to be able to put in a real gas range like a viking, five star or blue star. It's just not available in the area.
It's just really prohibitive to do for just cooking.
The propane gas places just don't want to be bothered. I tried.
