Maint Required light
Ok so the check engine light came on in My 2002 S2000 and I went out and plugged in my nice new OTC Genisys scan system with all the bells and shiny stuff and plugged it in. No codes! Everything seems to be working up to specs. So I took out my old cheap OTC hand held scanner and agian no codes. I sent the signal to reset and turn off all codes just in case. Maint required light still on. Ok so my question is does the cap being bad throw a code? I know that it will set off the Maint light but does anyone know if it will trigger an actual code? Also the car is about to hit 60,000 miles i(it had 59,969 miles on it when the light poped on) s there a bug from Honda that goes off as you aproach that Magic number?

maint light is different than check engine light. it's probably telling you it's time for a service or time for oil change. there's a way to turn off the maint light...lemme find it real quick...had to do it a couple times...

To reset the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light (As indicated by the light that says, "MAINT REQU'D"):
- Have key inserted in ignition but in the OFF or LOCKED position.
- Push and hold the trip reset button on the right bottom corner of your gauge clutster.
- Turn key to full ON position and continue holding the button till the light goes off.
-(This part has been added for those who are impatient or who have the light only at the "blinking" stage and not yet solid.) KEEP HOLDING THE BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO BE SURE OF A POSITIVE RESET. Or maybe just be patient and wait till the light is on all the time before doing this.
- (Some manuals may be a bit off in that they do not tell you to turn the key to the ON position.)

It doesn't mean you need an oil change.. it means the car thinks you need an oil change.. it's just set to go on at an interval from the last time the light was reset.
