license plate rules for MA/CT
hello. I've got a stupid question.
I know it's the law to have both front and rear plates for both MA and CT, but like many I don't want it on in the front. Has anyone had trouble with getting a ticket for not having a front plate? Can they pull you over JUST for not having a plate, or they need to pull you for something else first?
Thanks!

I live in CT. The fine is sixty dollars...I think.
Have not been stopped this summer. I am hoping the police will continue to leave me alone. It would be such a shame to put a plate on the front.

I dont have a front one (yes I think it's that ugly I'm willing to risk the fine), I do carry it in the trunk and if stopped plan on using the "I actually just took it off the other day cause i thought it looked ugly" excuse, may he'l just let me put it back on. I was stopped for speeding the other day and the officer didn't say anything about the plate. (now in this case he came up from behind me so I don't know if he saw or not).

There are actually two types of plates in MA. If you have the old ones with green letters on white, my understanding is that you are grandfathered and front plates are not required. That is, unless you have personalized green ones on white, in which case front/rear are required.
The more recent red letters on white are required front/rear.
I have not heard of anyone getting fined for not having one.

When I was getting a boating ticket thrown out of court (DMV snafu) a year and a half ago, a judge or prosecutor announced to the courtroom that police in Bridgeport would be heavily enforcing front plates!
I don't have one on my daily driver, but do on the S to attract laser guns to the jammer and haven't been bothered ever since CT returned front plates.
I believe odds are in your favor unless you live in a city trying to crack down on red-light running.
Enjoy,
Randy
