Just want to say thank you to Bill again for the great advice - the guy called again and told him exactly what bill said to say.
Very sorry i cant help you - i sold the car and the buyer knew it would not get a sticker - i can not forge documents to a car i no longer own plus i see the car is advertised on CL. furthermore i have no idea what may or may not hae happened to the car once i sold it. I think it

I'm really glad this thread occurred as I just had the weirdest thing happen last night. Oddly enough i was contacted by a person in RI by phone. My old car which I sold about a year ago was sold to this person and he was given the Title with my name, but no bill of sale. He had bought the car from someone in RI and without an engine and put in a D15. I originally sold it to some kid in Boston and he or the other guy must have yanked the B16 then re-sold it as a parts car or something.
I really wanted to help, but remembering this thread I apologized to the guy about his situation but informed him I could not help.
Now I know I should have had the buyer sign the title on the spot... I also don't even remember if I made a copy of the original Bill of Sale. Oye.

We have been having a rash of car thefts in the city. They are all taking 96-97 Nissans for some reason. From what I am told, in RI, you don't need a title to register a vehicle over 10 years old. So these asses get a wrecked 96-97 car from the junkyard and pull the VIN plates to put them on the cars they steal. Then they just register them as salvage titled. RI needs to wake up and update the laws.

So basically If this guy calls back, maybe I should tell this guy to go back to the DMV and say "I don't have the Title" as it's a '93 which is way over 10 years old. Maybe that'll work out for him.
