We got a pair of all seasons for the VW. I had no problem driving on snow covered roads. Even the really deep stuff.
Yeah, the car slide a little and the tail kicked out a little (when I lifted the handbrake). But it is all so controllable.
It was fun.
BTW. If anyone wants a set of nice Blizzard LM22 tires and wheels from tirerack, I still have them with me.

hey Kenta, I was never crazy about my M2's (granted they were used). They had decent tread left, but I think the rubber was just too old. I got some wintersport 3D's this year and I really, really like them. Of course I run these on my AWD audi, not the S.
One thing for people reading to note, some people are saying snow tires, but I have a feeling they mean winter tires. Winter tires are less aggressive as far as snow traction go. A good winter tire has the benefits of good cold weather, dry traction and decent snow traction. Summer tires tend to lose a lot of grip when avg temps are below 40F.
A lot of people with 4WD vehicles don't understand the biggest benefit of a snow or winter tire is not the handling traction, but the stopping traction. Most 4WD vehicles are heavy and can't stop well on dry pavement to begin with. I've noticed a huge improvement in stopping (in the snow) with my wintersport 3D's over my previous all season tires and wintersport m2's. I wasn't sold on winter tires going from the stock all seasons on my audi to the m2's. Not I'm a big believer.
All seasons get the job done, but not quite as well. Our street is a dead end on the outskirts of town and, therefore, doesn't get plowed early or often. Jen got stuck at the beginning of the street last night in her sentra with all seasons. The snow was just too deep and she didn't carry enough momentum. Even with a generous push it was a struggle to keep the car going. Of course in my low audi, which plower so much snow you wouldn't know it had an intercooler, it was a joke getting up the street. I think Jen is going to look for a set of winters now....
