Default I Swiss Cheesed my Airbox

I asked about intake recommendations a little over a month ago. Thanks for all the input. The bottom line that I took from your feedback was that there is not much of a performance gain from a cold air intake but they sound really good. I think it was Twizted that metioned that you get pretty much the same effect by taking the airbox cover off. That started me thinking about opening up the airbox. That's a popular performance mod with my fellow Buell motorcycle enthusisasts. To avoid too much hot air coming in from the engine compartment, I left the front air intake in place and opened up the airbox cover around it. My guess if that the cool air from the front intake will dominate due to the pressure head and higher density. Hopefully this will avoid any heat-soak issues in the summer months. It seems to be working as expected. It sounds pretty good and I think there is a very slight performace gain but I may be being fooled by the sound. Is there anything that I sould be on the look out for?

Would there be a concern about getting water in there if you hit a big puddle?

ive never seen this before either!!!

ive only seen the "gutted airbox" and that seems more sensible than putting all those holes...

yah when you open the box theres the on divider in the middle! cut that out and then on the cover of the box when removed there is a "L" shaped piece thats plastic riveted just break that off and thats all! and you also plug off the hole thats in the bottom of the airbox...

Interesting. All for the sake of getting more cool air.

I don't think so Bruce. If the water got up that high it would be in the stock ait inlet as well.

Homer: "Hey, what are all these holes?" (points at bullet holes in car hood)
Car salesmen: "These are speed holes. They make the car go faster."
Homer (impressed): "Oh yeah, speed holes."
