Just looking for advice and someone to save me from myself if I am making a huge mistake. I have done a lot of research on aftermarket exhausts and from what I gathered many are way to loud, can be expensive, do not really add much if any ponies and many have gone back to stock after being unhappy. Never mind swapping out a perfectly good exhaust. I do not like the look of the stock exhaust and tips etc... so my first thought was just swap out the tips; logical thought, cheap, looks good and most rational money spent. Then thought of the people that would get a good look of my car and see it was stock exhaust and after market tips, may think it was a bit cheap and a cheesy move. (yes I care what people think) so I think I am going with aftermarket Magnaflow stainless steel mufflers with aftermarket magnaflow 3 1/2 inch tips. the cost is about 200 for 2 mufflers and about 40 dollars labor and the tips will be about 60-70 bucks total installed. for for 300 I will have the aggressive look I am seeking, the stainless steel appearance, a bit deeper sound but not to crazy as the rest of the piping will be stock.... all for about 300.00. If you think this is OK please let me know, if you have done something similar please let me know and if this is a huge mistake please let me know. Please do not tell me to save another 300 and get a full exhaust as parting with 300 is enough for me on something that is more visual and wouldn't add much horse power anyway. I have read about others on this site doing it and are pleased....

www.mangaflow.com and the mufflers are # 14226 (I think) and the tips are # 35125
I like round mufflers better then oval but oval are not as loud so going oval.....

thanks for your opinions...

Why not get a complete system from Spugen? Good quality, looks good, much lighter and I believe they use magnaflow mufflers too. Can get a complete system and save weight for a few hundered bucks more. Plus it will just bolt up, no need to pay someone to cut and weld on new mufflers.

Mickfluff,

I considered similar options for the same reasons as you. I wound up going with a full stainless cat back system however. A Tanabe for $590. Sireousrex's suggestion to get a Spugen is a great idea. You can probably pick one up for under $400. Then just bolt it up yourself.

when i first got my car i had thought about going that raod but it was going to cost me almost the same the i had payed for my comptech and i didn't see the point in cutting up the factory system when i can but one for a little bit more. Don't get me wrong thogh magnaflow makes realy good stuff in fact they make systems for a lot of aftermarket companies

I got the Spugen single for weight savings and performance gains (slight, but you can't expect much as the original system is pretty good performance wise). They use Magnaflow and aluminized mandrel bent steel tube. The tube won't last forever, but will last as long as I own the car.

Think of it this way, for around $500 you will have two complete systems; your stock system and your Spugen (or a used something else which you can find on this board all the time in FS section.) When you sell your car, put the stock system back on and sell your aftermarket system on the board and get a bunch of your money back.

Agree with Legal Bill. Keep your eyes out for a used Spugen. You might be able to pick one up for $300 - $400 (depending on which application). When you sell it back, you'll only loose maybe $100. Although from other owners' feedbacks, it is generally considered loud - or louder than the HKS.
