How long do your winter tires last?

For the record, I've Vtec'd 172 times this winter.
About the sidewalls, the LM-22s are like an all season tire, handles great in the dry and only feel a bit squishy if pushed really hard.

Mas,
They might say observe on them, I'll have to check. They do say HT and are only H rated (130mph). I know what you're talking about with the VTECing. the Pirellis are probably a much better tire. The toyo's are definitely squishy but I'm just happy to be able to drive in four seasons, didn't know if that would be possible when I bought the car.
I'll be putting a new set of SO2's on the rear this spring and am looking forward to summer like everyone else out here.
This winter was waaaayyyyyy too long!

I don't really think there is any winter tire out there with a speed rating higher than H because of the compounds they use.
I took mine up to 200 kph (125 mph) (long story as to why I did this, but lets say I had a "good" reason)... car felt alright at that speed... but its not something I'd normally do.

I'm new to the S2K community, as my '04 won't arrive for a couple of months yet. Judging by what I read here, should I count on buying a set of snows as soon as I get my S (November, probably)? Does a St. Louis winter warrant tires different than what will come as stock? Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks, XVIPER! Sounds like good advice. We just moved here from the Chicago area in Feb of 2002, so I'm still a little unsure of what to expect. St. Louisans said last winter was particularly snowy, but compared to Chicago (and Milwaukee before that!) winters, there sure weren't many days when I would worry about driving the S. Still, it's a good reason to hang onto the ol' Prizm and Rav4.

St. Louis is right on the border between snow or ice/freezing rain. With the hills (it's a river city) and the ice storms that you will get, winter driving can be a bit interesting. You might just discover a new route home when the roads are iced over.
To be honest, I moved from there in 1973 and haven't driven in the winter there, since then. I would imagine that they are very good at keeping the main roads clear. I did like the chemical that they used to use on the roads instead of salt.
Xviper is correct about the OEM tires. They are without a doubt, summer tires only. Having said that, this car goes very well in the winter with snow tires mounted on it. If you have a choice, drive the beater. I drive mine all year, as does xviper, and I have a lot of fun driving mine in the winter.
Enjoy,
Bob
