When do you folks celebrate Christmas? Christmas Eve, Christmas Day? Do you run from house to house trying to see everyone "On the day?"
My family and Rick's used to celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day. That meant we had a fair amount of visiting to on Christmas Day. I never enjoyed it. It felt like we were rushing around all day, it was hectic, no time to relax, or any time for our son to enjoy his new toys.
Over the years it's changed. The family is more scattered. Some family members are gone. My son has his own family. It was time for some new traditions.
I figured I'll make things easy on my son. We celebrate Christmas with them early. Generally it's a bit more relaxing and we have more time. Toys, presents, fun with the grandkids. I invite my Mom to share the time with us. Some of my siblings may stop by. We don't do a fancy dinner, we call the pizza guy.
It's a "win win" for us. My son and his family can do whatever they want on Christmas Day and so can we.

When my parents were alive, we'd do Christmas Eve with them and my brother and possibly some others from my father's side. We'd come home an open our own major gifts. Next morning would be the stocking. Then we'd do Christmas day with Judy's family and usually visit with friends (who now live in Maine and come down for their holiday time) the day after Christmas.
Except for my parents part, it's pretty much the same.

Last year - Second weekend in January.
Its a matter of convenience. Our family has never celebrated christmas, we celebrate the american holiday you find on the calendar.

When we got married I laid down one rule regarding Christmas.
We used to travel when I was a kid and hated it.
So we are home for Christmas day. Period.
Tonight we'll swing by the in-laws for Christmas Eve but then we're home.
