Sorry about your loss. The holidays can be hard for many folks for that very reason.
I'm sure you and your daughter will enjoy your day at home.

Bill, I'm coming to your house for Christmas.
Please don't take my "Grinch" statement the wrong way Family is and always will be priority number one and nothing can replace all of the great memories the holidays bring ... past and future!

Christmas conflicts pretty drastically with my parsimonious nature, and as such... it doesn't rank very highly on the "Erick's favorite days" list.

I've been around... been lurking here more often than not lately. We need more s2k meets I think, that or move up the Chuck E. Cheese Thomas meet up a bit.
As for my favorite days? Birthdays are nice, I'm not the type that gets overly stressed about advancing one more year based on the Gregorian calendar. Plus the expenditure to earning ratio works much better for me on my birthday than is does Christmas.

Bill - So sorry to hear about your mom - I hope she does well through her surgery.
Your last paragraph really sums things up about the holiday. It's easy to get lost in the gift-giving and the time demands put to us by others. It's incredibly easy to get angry and annoyed because it's a special day and you feel as though you have no control over what you are doing because you need to run here, there and everywhere. But when it all comes down to it look around the room and realize that the biggest present of all on Christmas is having those you love with you on yet another Christmas day, because we never know if those that are with us this Christmas will be there for the next one. So slow down at some point and just realize that gifts are gifts and they are nothing but material things - while the people we love are the true presents.
Bill - I know what you want for a Christmas present and I hope you get it!!

At 91...I may not have another Christmas with her.
I have not yet spent a Christmas anywhere other than my grandparent's place in North Carolina. Grandma is 94 this year (I'm convinced she'll outlive me) and I'll be spending my 35th Christmas with her.
Enjoy it while you can folks!
