Default help please - thomas has a virus!

hey guys

i've been working on Thomas' pc for a few days now and i am sure he has a nasty virus.. his system won't let him go to any secure websites and it tries to dial out automactily

i tried to install Norton however the install would get about 3/4 of the way though the install and just stop saying try again later ????

tried hi-jack this however i'm not too sure what to delete and i didn't want to mess up his system

are there any computer experts here that can help??

Thanks!!

I assume you're running some version of Windows. Have you tried starting the computer in the "safe" mode and then trying to install Norton? You may or may not be able to load Norton that way depending on how your computer is configured. Other than that I have no suggestions.

Try Safemode 1st.

Did he have any antivirus software before?

Does the PC boot and are all files fully accessable to let him backup any data he needs?

If you can back up files you can format and reload if all else fails.

Tell Thomas to stay off the p0rn sites.

Norton AV usually comes with a bootable CD. Boot to that and then run the virus scan.

Take the hard drive out and wash it. Remember to use plenty of soap.

I guess you could also get a process list from the task manager and "end" suspicious processes, then try to reinstall norton.

You may be able to stop malicious programs from starting up by going
to Start>Run> Type "msconfig" , I think it is the last tab on the right where you can turn off certain start up programs. Restart and try to reinstall.

AVG free anti virus

I use this on my machine , I had a full version of Norton and Mcafee , and AVG find more stuff . AVG also uses less resources . The link above should be the download . You have to uninstall any virus protection you have now .

I clicked on the link. Nothing happened.

This virus is strong.

I also tried boot it up, press f8 and get to a screen with a few options, none of it let me to change my booting sequence to CD first.

I could not bypass window, Damn!

My computer is done!

Just before I have to complete my tax returns and pay my bills online. I am very pissed!
