Default Help Ike Victims

Folks who were on here back when Katrina hit New Orleans will remember that New England raised funds here, on the rest of the board, and even from friends and family to help Katrina victims. While we are a car club, and often focus on mods and maintenance, that fund raising effort was probably our finest moment as a community.

Today, as I sadly think of Bruce's passing, and watch the destruction and flooding in Texas on TV, it occurs to me that our friend Bruce would be thinking of ways to help the victims of Ike if he were with us. So why don't we do what we can to help out the Ike victims in memory of Bruce? I propose we repea our Katrina fund raising efforts. We will seek permission from the Admins to raise money site-wide in memory of our friend Bruce. Perhaps one of us can repeat Steve's efforts to serve as the central collection agent. We will identify a group that truly needs the funds to help local people that are not being helped-sadly, despite the millions that pour into relief agencies, it always seems the people get very little of what they truly need.

Maybe we can all get together and get behind an effort like this without the need to make political or social comments. Maybe we can all work together for a common good, in memory of Bruce.

Bill good idea.

Bruce was on the board of many charitable organizations, it's possible he may have chosen one to which we can donate in his memory. Ira was going to get back to me with that information.

Not to say that we can't throw a few bucks to each cause. Every donation counts, no matter how small. Bruce would be one of the first in line to help the TX hurricane victims.

Lainey

I think folks would have donated to Ike victims anyway and with Bruce's
passing I would also be donating to the charity (or to what ever was
defined by the family and/or Ira) in memory of Bruce.

Of course everyone has the option to donate to one or both.

And YES no political BS here, let's have one meaningful
thread that is dedicated to what it was meant for rather than having it
degrade to more political sh!t!

Sounds great everyone. Maybe one of us can contact Ira to find out if there is a charity Bruce was active in that would be an appropriate recipient. If someone with Ira's contact info wants to send the info to me, I will reach out to him early next week. It is certainly fine if someone else wants to do it.

Sent Ira an email this evening, asking about the preference of a particular charity for donations in Bruce's name.

I'll let you know when I hear back from him.
