Harriman State Park (Bear Mtn), NY twisties report
#1
The past week has been spectacular topdown weather here in the NYC area. I went exploring for twisties at Harriman State Park after work last week and here's my report. There's a road name 106 that runs east-west right thru the heart of Harriman State Park. I usually pick it up off exit 15 on Palisades Parkway. 106 is a narrow two way one lane each way road. The conditions of the road is not the best, especially the western stretch but it offers nice twisty and some change in elevation plus nice views of the lakes. Half way thru 106 and in Harriman State Park, you will encounter a circle where it intersects with seven lakes drive. If you head north on seven lakes drive, you will see Tiorati circle. Take Tiorati Brook Road. This is a MUST ! It's a spectacular road. It's only about 5 miles long, but it has very good twisties and roller coaster like change in elevation. Plus the road is very smooth. At the end of this road you would probably want to do a U turn and come right back on the same road because going straight will lead you right back on to Palisade parkway South. I usually end my day of fun by taking 106 west to route 17 and heading south to go home. Don't go too fast on 17, there are lots of police on 17, especially the NY side. I usually drive up after work since it can get crowded on weekends. A word of caution. During this time of year, insects and bugs are a major problem. The front of the car will have lots of bug kills after driving thru the Park. Also, watch out for deers on the backroads. Drive safely and have fun.
NOTE: I just discovered an easier way to get to Tiorati Brook Road. Take exit 16 off Palisades Parkway. The exit is on the left lane. After the exit, bear right, Tiorati Brook Road is on the right.

Thanks for the tips mister_two!
I travel down to New Jersey quite often, and take the Palisides once in awhile. Now I have to make a little side trip! I am assuming this is somewhat on the way from the Tappansee Bridge? And one more thing mister_two, are you going to make it to the Limerock Meet?
Reedz, Hey it's nice to see you in this forum! Are you still going to make it to Limerock with Rick! Can't wait to see you guys again!

James, I will be driving up to Bear Mtn after work tomorrow (Tuesday, May 15th). Let me know if you want to hook up. The forecast says it will get cloudy later in the week so I want to take advantage of the sunny weather tomorrow. Maybe we can have a two car meet
g-s2k, Harriman state Park is north of Tappan Zee Bridge, I would say maybe 25 mins after coming off the bridge. No, I haven't signed up for Lime Rock. I really haven't looked into it since I may have some plans for the memorial day weekend. But if I am free I will definitely check it out.
