Looking for something in the $150-200 range with decent battery life.
The Canon does use a proprietary battery, but I've found that I have yet to kill it in a single day of shooting.

What was posted above in my car be Kenta was a Canon SD1000. It has a Canon supplied rechargable battery pack that is good for 350+ pics per charge.
The purchase price for that camera, 1gig SD card and case last year on black Friday was $175.
I have always been happy with my Canon point and shoot cameras. They have awesome battery life and take great pics

Basically Ellen, Canon SD1000 ftw!

my wife's nikon has rechargeables.
not in the price range but...one charge ~400-500 exposures.
But is a NiMH type battery pack designed for the camera as opposed to off the shelf nicad AA batteries.

My Kodak easy share had re-chargeble batteries which worked great - the first set that is. I've tried two other OEM sets since the first ones quit holding a charge and neither works to hold a charge more a day.
I even turn off the view preview and just use the little window. Still sucks down the batteries.
I looked at ebay and the SD1000 seems to be about $165 plus shipping, lowest I can find. Most of my picture taking is past for this year so I will probably hold off until after Christmas at this point.
Oh how it pains me to us the C word this early!

Hmm I just looked around and the SD1000 appears to be out already in favor of the newer 8MP SD1100. Looks like Circuit City has it for 175. I had gotten a coupon from them a while ago but I lost if, if you had one of those you could probably score it for the 150-160 range

Cheap money for a camera!
My digital, which was a promotional type gift had a value of almost $500.00 just five years ago. It looks like I could take better pics with a $200.00 camera now.

Don't these cameras have decent battery chargers with them?
I've been using the same battery for five years. If we go to a meet, I bring the charger with me and charge the battery at night.
