Thankfully no one was injured. Not even a little as far as I can tell.
Thanks all for the interest, concern and info. She is a little worried about her insurance rates going up because they had to pay, even though she was not at fault. I suppose they could sue the at-fault uninsured guy, but I doubt if they will get anything. At the time of the accident, the guy produced an insurance ID card. Only later did the cop find out it was not valid.
At this point she is likely to accept what she can get, maybe after a little more begging, and give up the car to her ins. company. This seems a shame because it is definitely driveable. Seems like a waste to me, but I guess that's the system.
We looked at buying a new car. I think she has her heart set on a Scion Xb. IMO, this is the 3rd ugliest car available, preceded by the Pontiac Aztec and Honda Element, but it seems a good vehicle for her purposes. Meanwhile, she has no car and no way to get to work. She may be able to borrow something from her sister, but we will see. Normally, the guy that rear-ended her would have insurance to cover a rental, but not the case here. She has not yet turned over the title, so I guess she will just drive it a few more days.
Thanks again. I don't have any pics yet.
