If it is more expensive for fios and it does not have HBO, I think the choice is clear. Unless you are downloading pR0n all day long and need the extra speed, comcast speed is fine considering the trade off of loosing HBO and paying more.

Verizon people called me yesterday. They want me to buy a package deal for our phone. We'll get "free" long distance and more features on the phone than I need/want.
I told them I couldn't see giving them, an extra $5.00/month for features I don't need and want, and for long distance when I can make the calls for free on the cell phone.
I asked the guy to check into giving me a better price for my DSL and then we'd talk.
The guy didn't have that kind of power.
No FIOS in my area yet.
I'd rather stick with Verizon. I hate the phone people less than I hate the ComCast people.

Fios has the greater potential for future add ons and channels. Their fiber optic setup is way beyond what comcast could ever offer. And to boot it up a notch, Verizon is already building more and more bandwidth into their network. They just need to get more channels to have an equal footing with cable in that area. But cable will never, quote never have the bandwidth that fios does without totally upgrading all their wirering to your home and their hubs.
The choice is not always clear. Personally I am betting on the potential of fios. When I had cable our internet connection had speed issues, fios has not even flinched with 4 computers and 2 game consoles connected to it.
Go for the potential. The heck with HBO it gets boring anyways.

so what does verizon do if you have buried utilities and they want to add fiber?
I'm 'only' a 1/4 off the street, do they say free install?

That is a good question. Mine was above ground and it was free. I guess it would depend on how easy it would be to snake all that cable underground.
They might cut the comcast cable, attach the fiber optic to it and pull it through to your house.
