Also, if I can make a suggestion, pick the MBTA as your first choice for hiring. There are strng rumors that they will be merged with the state police at some point and they will then get all of their benefits/pay without their going through their academy.

Oh BTW You guys.... Before I take the test... What can I expect from the State salary wise as a Police Officer?

I know I was nearing six digits in AZ. I am in mid 30z base now ....

I usually pull in just under 100k but I BUST MY ASS doing overtime and details. If you want to just work regular shifts, expect to make about 50-60 after a few years on the job. You'll make about 40-50 the first year. There are guys who really kick it in and make well over 6 figures anually. If you get on, don;t waste any time and get a degree in Crim. justice. An AA is worth a 10% raise, a BA 20% and a masters is 25%. That is factored into your base salary so it bumps your overtime and retirement too!!

Remember that the pension and health care is top notch as well.

Oh yeah, that's what we need. MBTA cops becoming staties just because. They are a bunch of losers who couldn't make it as a small town cop. It's like when they combined the Registry cops with the Staties. They were wannabees. DUH.
